What to ask before you trust an AI app
Use these five questions on any artificial intelligence product, including ours.
- Is an account required? If yes, ask why. An account exists to associate activity with an identity. Sometimes that is necessary. Often it is not.
- Is data retained after processing? Look for an explicit statement, not an absence of one.
- Is your data used for model training? Many terms of service permit this by default with opt out buried in settings.
- What runs on device? Any capability that runs locally is a capability that cannot leak.
- How is the product funded? This single question predicts the answers to the other four more reliably than any privacy page.
